Apple Offers MacBook Repair Program for Hard Drive Issues

Apple has begun a MacBook Repair Extension Program for Hard Drive Issues to repair or refund owners of black or white MacBooks sold between approximately May 2006 and December 2007 who have suffered faulty hard drive issues.

Symptoms are described as a flashing question mark on the screen at which point Apple will “examine the hard drive to confirm if it is eligible for a replacement, free of charge, under this program.”

More specifically the issue that seems to effect MacBooks with Seagate hard drives is said to only prevail on 13-inch MacBooks with a processor speed of 1.83GHz, 2GHz, or 2.16GHz and one of the following hard drive capacities 60GB, 80GB, 100GB, 120GB, or 160GB.

The new MacBook refresh is said to be another push by Apple to reveal even more affordable notebooks with AppleInsider reporting that they will be the cheapest notebooks Apple has ever introduced.

Limited details were offered by AppleInsider apart from the rumour sites states that the MacBook will retain the white polycarbonate shell.

Analyst Predicts iMac and MacBook Redesign

Analyst firm Wedge Partners has released a note to clients predicting updates to both the iMac and MacBook in the near future. The note details that the iMac will see a significant design refresh and MacBook will see limited design enhancements.

The note also adds that Apple will be looking to lower the prices of both the iMac and MacBook to make them more competitive.

Despite being an analysts prediction the report echoes previous rumours that the iMac will see a significant redesign and price drop.

Low End Plastic MacBook to See Redesign

AppleInsider is today reporting that Apple’s polycarbonate MacBook notebook range is set for a “visual tuneup”. The sources familiar with the matter say that Apple is preparing to refresh the MacBook within the next few months with a “slimmer, lighter enclosure and restructured internal architecture to boot.”

The report also suggests that the MacBook will also see multiple models under the current $999 price point.
