Apple Ramps Up Mac OS X 10.5.8 Development [Seed Notes]

While Apple began testing of Mac OS X 10.5.8 just prior to WWDC the latest builds have begun showing signs of another mammoth update.

Build 9L16 was given to developers earlier today and asks those with the build to focus on AirPort, ColorSync, AppKit, AddressBook, Safari and USB amongst others.

Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.5.7

Apple has today released the long awaited Mac OS X 10.5.7 update. The update which had been in testing since late February contained several hundred bug fixes and enhancements in its last seed over the weeekend.

The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.

Mac OS X 10.5.7 Due Friday, 9J60 With Developers [Seed Notes]

A report from Mac|Life today claims that Mac OS X 10.5.7 which first entered developer testing in late February will finally reach the awaiting public this Friday.

Elsewhere Apple has released yet another build of Mac OS X 10.5.7 to its developer community, build 9J60 offers just one listed fix and Safari 4 remains in the list of known issues. It should be noted that many developers have confirmed to World of Apple that Safari 4 works fine in Mac OS X 10.5.7 but there appears to be an issue with the installer.

Apple Delays Mac OS X 10.5.7, Continues Development [Seed Notes]

Apple has today delivered a new build of Mac OS X 10.5.7 to developers. The new build labelled Mac OS X 10.5.7 9J58 offers only two areas of change, both affecting CFNetwork in association with Safari, VPN and iChat.

As with all previous builds of 10.5.7 Apple warns that the Safari 4 Beta browser will not install on the build.

AppleInsider notes that Apple is “easing the release” to make sure “all its ends are tied.”

[Update] Despite AppleInsider reporting that Apple is slowing the release of Mac OS X 10.5.7 World of Apple readers have reminded us that Mac Pro users this week began receiving their ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics upgrade kits which require drivers only present in Mac OS X 10.5.7.

Mac OS X 10.5.7 Build 9J56 Graces Developers [Seed Notes]

Despite many expecting that the previous build of Mac OS X 10.5.7 would be the one to see a public release Apple today has released a new build labelled 9J56.

The latest build adds another five fixes to the huge list including issues with AFP volumes, Bluetooth stability and crash reporting and logging.

The previous updates to Mac OS X 10.5 were released on:

  • 10.5.1 = Thursday release
  • 10.5.2 = Monday release
  • 10.5.3 = Wednesday release
  • 10.5.4 = Monday release
  • 10.5.5 = Monday release
  • 10.5.6 = Monday release

Latest Mac OS X 10.5.7 Release Suggests Release Nearing [Seed Notes]

A mere four days following the last build of Mac OS X 10.5.7 Apple has given developers build 9J50 of the next minor update to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

In the seed just one fix is present which is aimed at Bluetooth personal networking.

The quick succession of releases suggests that Apple is preparing the final builds and will likely deliver Mac OS X 10.5.7 in the coming days. AppleInsider also suggests that the release frequency is “a telltale sign of an imminent release.”

Apple Gives Developers New Mac OS X 10.5.7 Build [Seed Notes]

As with the last five weeks Apple has this weekend given developers a new build of the next minor update to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Build 9J47 of Mac OS X 10.5.7 includes only three new fixes but Apple has also increased the number of focus areas in the build.

Mac OS X 10.5.7 entered developer testing in late February and developers have seen seven builds over the testing period.

Developers Greeted With Build 9J44 of Mac OS X 10.5.7

Recent Mac OS X 10.5.7 Builds Confirm Upcoming Xserve Refresh

AppleInsider reports on multiple files in the recent builds of Mac OS X 10.5.7 that point towards the imminent update of Apple’s Xserve range of servers.

A reader of AppleInsider pointed out that extension file AppleTyMCEDriver contains a reference to “Xserver3,1″ a machine ID which is one major upgrade up from the current “Xserver2,1″ models.

If this wasn’t enough confirmation of a nearing Xserve update, AppleInsider points towards references to Marvell’s Yukon 2 ethernet controller. Currently Xserve models use the Yukon 1 controller.

New Seed of Mac OS X 10.5.7 Surfaces

In what looks like a weekly occurence Apple has this weekend delivered a build 9J39 of Mac OS X 10.5.7. Over the last few weeks Apple has given developers new builds on the weekends with very few known issues.

This build in partcular fixes issues Mail signatures, System Profiler having problems with DisplayPort adapters and several other issues.

As with previous builds the inability to install Safari 4 Beta is the only remaining issue.
