iPod Touch With Camera to Drop Spring 2010

Following a barrage of convincing evidence that the iPod touch released in September this year was intended to feature a camera rumours now suggest that the models will finally appear in Spring 2010.

The source suggests that the iPod touch will feature the same camera as the iPod nano also released last September.

The iPod touch was rumoured to be set to include a camera prior to the current models release in September, since then it’s been reported that due to bad parts Apple removed the camera at the last minute, a fact proven by teardowns of the units.

FM Radio Coming to iPhone and iPod Touch

9 to 5 Mac is reporting that Apple could be looking to add FM radio support to the iPod touch and iPhone via an app. The story which is fuelled by a tip submitted to the rumour site suggests that the app from Apple will be allowed to run in the background and will work in a similar way to the new iPod nano.

9 to 5 Mac states that the project has been delayed while Apple works out how to implement the iTunes Store to allow easy purchasing of songs being played on the radio. Additionally all iPods and iPhones are said to already have hardware capable of receiving FM signals.

Support Note Hints at iPod Touch Camera [U: No It Doesn't]

Evidence continues to mount supporting rumours that Apple will add a camera to the iPod touch, like it did the iPod nano.

An Apple support note last modified on October 13th is entitled “iPhone and iPod touch: Disabling digital camera notification in Mac OS X” suggesting that the iPod was intended to have a camera built in.

Following the release of new iPods in September many were shocked at the lack of camera in the top tier iPod despite rumours beforehand that it would feature a built in camera. In the following weeks photos of the insides of the iPod touch pointed out obvious space for a camera leading many to believe that Apple will release a new model in the near future.

[Update - As pointed out in the comments, iPod touches have always appeared as imagine devices as images can be saved to the camera roll from the device itself and can be removed using iPhoto]

iPod Touch Internals Reveal Apple’s Secret

Following last weeks surprise revelation that the newest iPod touch does not feature a built-in camera like its iPod nano counterpart, AppleInsider reported that Apple intended and still intends to add a camera to the iPod touch.

iFixit has subsequently posted photos of the internals of the iPod touch which reveal that Apple was most likely planning to include a camera in the iPod touch and will do in the future. A space in the centre of the circuit board in which a camera would fit matches the positioning of images revealed earlier in August.

Additionally iFixit notes that the iPod touch includes the Broadcom BCM4329 combination Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip which is capable of the new 802.11n standard.
