Apple today complimented the release of iTunes 6.0.5 with iPod Updater 2006-06-28.

[Update] With this update Apple has added a new function to iPods, Volume limit provides an easy way to set the maximum output volume to prevent an iPod from exceeding this level.

“As the leading provider of digital music players, Apple continuously brings iPod customers innovative and easy to use solutions,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing. “With the increased attention in this area, we want to offer customers an easy to use option to set their own personal volume limit.”

Apple has released an update for most of the current pods.

As described below, looks like this is to enable support of the new FM Radio Remote.

iPod Updater 2006-01-10 delivers:
iPod Software 1.1 for iPod
iPod Software 1.1 for iPod nano
iPod Software 1.2.1 for iPod with color display
iPod Software 1.4.1 for iPod mini
iPod Software 3.1.1 for iPod with Click Wheel
For all other iPod models, iPod Updater 2006-01-10 contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2005-11-17.

Bug fixes

The update applies only to the iPod shuffle and updates its firmware to version 1.1.3, the update is around 37MB.

Apple describes the update as “bug fixes”, although Apple have obviously declined to comment on the exact details it appears that the update fixes problems related to the iPod shuffle green and orange error lights causing iTunes to suddenly no longer recognise the device. The issue has been known to affect both 1GB and 512MB iPod shuffles

Apple has posted iPod Updater 2005-10-12. The update includes iPod Software 1.0 for Apple’s new video-enabled fifth-generation iPod, but does not bring any new features to current iPods. According to the brief release notes, iPod Updater 2005-10-12 “contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2005-09-23 for all other iPod models.”

iPod software update 2005-09-23 delivers iPod Software 1.1.2 for iPod shuffle, iPod Software 1.0 for iPod nano, iPod Software 1.2 for iPod with color display, iPod Software 1.4 for iPod mini, and iPod Software 3.1 for iPod with Click Wheel.
