AppleInsider is reporting that Apple will introduce “eye catching” designs for both its laptop offerings. It appears Apple may be on schedule to release Intel machines much earlier than the stated mid 2006.

The report contains information that five Macintel projects are underway and moving at a reasonable pace and Steve Jobs is reportedly leading the pace.

Current information appears to point towards an Intel iBook around April - May and the possibility of a 13-inch widescreen model is high.

As to many peoples predictions AppleInsider reports that the PowerBooks will receive an update before the iBooks around January we reckon. The PowerBooks will reportedly sport built-in iSight cameras and the 12 inch model is too be dropped from the line up.

A startup company known as P.A. Semi is reported to be working on a new family of low power, multicore, PowerPC processors.

The company plans to introduce a dual core 2GHz processor with typical power consumption of around 13 watts. A spokesman for the company had this to say;

“There isn’t a silver bullet to solve the power problem. You just have to have it as a priority all through the design process,” Hayter said. “We’ve applied the methodology whereby if a part of the chip isn’t being used, we won’t clock it.”

The chips are expected to be introduced towards the end of 2006.

MacBidouille has posted some screenshots from a “anonymous source” that point towards the possibility of Quad Processor Intel Macs with Hyperthreading support.

“Without giving much details, those captures shows MacOSX x86 running on a 4 physical CPU-based MacIntel with Hyperthreading enable. One can clearly see 4 physical processors recognized while 8 logical processors are recorded by the CPU monitor.
So MacOSX can really manage without problem any MacIntel based on either physical or logical processors.”
