Upcoming Motorola Phone Lacks iTunes Support

The upcoming revision to the ROKR will not include iTunes but instead a service from Motorola called iRadio.

The iRadio service, will include 435 commercial-free radio channels, including genres such as Heavy Metal, Rockin’ Cowboys and Angry Women. Its satellite rivals also provide specialized music channels, often without ads.

Wearable Display for Video iPods

eMagin Corp is a company that currently makes wearable display units for the military but it appears the focus maybe moving over to the industry, in particular video iPods.

The company has developed a unit for the video iPod, the video appears in front of the users and gives the impression of a 105 inch display from 12 feet away.

“Suddenly you’ve got this big-screen, movie-screen, home-theater experience, wherever you are,” said Gary Jones, eMagin’s president and CEO.

.Mac Shifts Bandwidth Limit to 1TB [Update 1]

1TB bandwidthIt appears Apple have given all .Mac users a nice New Years present. .Mac seems to now be featuring 1TB (1024GB) of bandwidth every month. The figure can be seen in your account settings.

[Update 1] Readers have noted that the figure has now disappeared from view, the .Mac features list still says 3GB and always has, this quick removal brings us to think that this was more than it first appeared.

Ive Honoured With CBE

Vice president of industrial design, Jonathan Ive has been honoured with a CBE in the Queens New Years Honours list.

Ive is responsible for the look of many Apple products such as the iMac, Power Mac G4, Cube and most notably the iPod.

Apple had this to say about the great news: “We are as proud as could be that Jonny is receiving such a prestigous commendation.”

iTunes Music Store Saw Surge in Sales on Christmas Day

The FT is reporting today that “music downloading websites” saw a 50% rise on Christmas Day, supposedly down to hundreds of thousands of people unwrapping iPods and loading them with tunes. In particular Hitwise reckons that the iTunes Music Store saw a 50 percent rise between the 24th and the 25th.

Apple Rejoins Forbes’ Platinum 400

Apple has been ranked among the winners in Forbes’ Platinum 400 list of Americas best big corporations, in particular these companies must have outperformed the S&P 500 over the previous 12 months. Apple was ranked 4th behind SanDisk, Holly, and Valero.

iPod Wireless Earbuds? [Update 1]

Some readers have noted over the last few days that Apple Stores in Japan have given their employees maroon coloured T-shirts with the slogan “Luck is in The Air”.

The computers in the store also follow on the theme with screensavers displaying images of a flower with an iPod in the centre and earbuds floating away.

This could very well be indicating wireless earbuds for the iPod to be released at MacWorld in a couple of weeks.

Power Outage Slows Apple’s POS Process

A power outage cut the power to Apple’s inventory and management computer systems thus cutting links to credit card processing networks.

The power cut forced retail stores to manually process credit card purchases for over 30 minutes, lines at some stores began to snake out doors discouraging new customers from entering the stores.

Many retail analysts believe that Friday 22nd would have been one of the best pre-Christmas selling days.

iPod Settlement Now Final

On December 20th those who filed against Apple have been dismissed and the Settlement has been declared final, meaning Apple can move forward with claims administrations and fulfiment.

Apple Offers Free TV Downloads on iTunes

Apple has posted two new TV shows to the iTunes Music Store which are available free to download. The two new clips are:

Saturday Night Live Short - Lazy Sunday - 2m 31s
Sci Fi Inside: Battlestar Galactica - 21m 03s

Of particular interest, it is reported that the episode of Battlestar Galactica will air live on January 2nd 2006 and the free episode acts as a lead in.

“We are thrilled to be the first network to premiere our own original programming on the iTunes Music Store,” says Dave Howe, Sci Fi’s executive vice president and general manager.
