Apple Delivers Minor Logic Express and Pro Updates

Apple today published updates for Logic Pro and Express 9. Most notably the updates deliver further 64-bit stability improvements applications alongside other enhancements. The last update which pushed the applications to 9.1.0 added native 64-bit support.

Logic Pro 9.1.1

This update delivers improved compatibility and numerous fixes.

Issues addressed with 9.1.1 include:

  • Improved stability of the 32-Bit Audio Unit Bridge
  • Compatibility with Novation”s Automap feature in 64-bit mode.
  • Compatibility with Euphonix Eucon protocol in 64-bit mode.

Issues addressed with Logic Pro 9.1.0 include:

  • Support for 64-bit native mode
  • Compatibility with 64-bit Audio Unit plug-ins
  • File names with over 32 characters are now supported
  • Samples are now mapped correctly when using the “Contiguous Zones” option in the EXS editor Updated System Requirements
  • 32-bit mode requires Mac OS X 10.5.7 or later
  • 64-bit mode requires Mac OS X 10.6.2 or later
  • The update is recommended for all users of Logic Pro 9.

Apple Releases Safari 4.0.5

Apple today released Safari 4.0.5 for Mac and Windows, the minor update to Safari brings performance improvements and bug fixes.

Apple describes the update as delivering:

  • Performance improvements for Top Sites
  • Stability improvements for 3rd-party plug-ins
  • Stability improvements for websites with online forms and Scalable Vector Graphics
  • Fixes an issue that prevented Safari from changing settings on some Linksys routers
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some iWork.com users from commenting on documents

Safari 4.0.5 is available via software update or Apple’s website.

Apple Tackles Aperture Issues With Update

Apple has issued a minor update to tackle stability issues in Aperture 3 which was released earlier this month.

Aperture 3.0.1 – 29.41MB

This update improves overall stability and addresses a number of issues in Aperture 3, including:

  • Upgrading libraries from earlier versions of Aperture
  • Importing libraries from iPhoto
  • Importing photos directly from a camera
  • Memory usage when processing heavily-retouched photos
  • Face recognition processing
  • Adding undetected faces using the Add Missing Face button
  • Printing pages containing multiple images
  • Printing photos and contact sheets with borders and metadata
  • Editing photos using an external editor
  • Display of images with Definition and Straighten adjustments applied
  • Zooming photos in the Viewer and in the Loupe using keyboard shortcuts
  • Accessing Aperture libraries on a network volume Selecting and moving pins on the Places map
  • Adding and editing custom locations using the Manage My Places window
  • Switching between masters when working with RAW+JPEG pairs.

This update is recommended for all users of Aperture 3.

Apple also updated Camera RAW for better compatibility.

Apple Issues Update to Tackle Mac Pro Audio Issues

An issue that has plagued early 2009 Nahalem-based Mac Pros has been purportedly rectified with a small update from Apple. The issue would cause a 20 percent performance drop when audio was played in Mac OS X, and playing music in iTunes causes temperatures to sore in the Mac Pros.

Apple issued an update yesterday with an aim to fix the issue is available through software update. The 1.6MB download is described by Apple to “reduces processor utilization during audio activities, such as playing or recording music.”

Apple today released a software update for the Apple TV but has yet to reveal any details of the update. Apple TV 3.0.2 is said by users who have updated to make no noticeable changes.

Until Apple releases a related support article smart speculation suggests that the update simply brings compatibility with Aperture 3 which was released yesterday.

Apple TV 3.0 was released in October last year bringing major UI changes and iTunes LP playback capabilities.

2009 Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0

This firmware update improves battery performance of the 2009 Aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard when used in combination with other Bluetooth devices (example. Magic Mouse, Bluetooth headsets).

Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.1.3

Apple today released a minor update for the iPhone and iPod touch. The update which weighs in around the upper 200MB mark depending on device seems to deliver just bug fixes according to the attached release notes.

iMac Firmware Attempts Flickering Display Fix

Apple has today issued new firmware aimed at fixing intermittent display flickering in 27-inch iMacs.

Updates the display firmware on 27-inch iMac systems to address issues that may cause intermittent display flickering.

Apple previously issued a graphics firmware update in December in an attempt to fix the issue.

Apple Delivers iTunes Update to Tackle Bugs

iTunes 9.0.3 provides a number of important bug fixes, including:

  • iTunes no longer ignores your “Remember password for purchases” setting.
  • Addresses problems with syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts with iPod.
  • Resolves a problem recognizing when iPod is connected.
  • Addresses issues that affect stability and performance.

Boot Camp Update Brings Windows 7 Support

This update adds support for Microsoft Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate), addresses issues with the Apple trackpad, turns off the red digital audio port LED on laptop computers when it is not being used, and supports the Apple wireless keyboard and Apple Magic mouse.

This update is highly recommended for all Boot Camp 3.0 users.

Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 (iMac and Mac Pro) compatibility with Windows 7

Download and install the Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 if you run Windows 7 using Boot Camp on your iMac (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 or 7600 GT) or Mac Pro (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT or Quadro FX 4500) computer.

Logic Pro, MainStage Updated to 64-Bit

Apple today released updates for both Logic Pro and MainStage enabling the applications to run in 64-bit mode allowing access to larger amounts of memory.

When applications run in 32-bit mode the maximum amount of addressable memory is 4GB, 64-bit gives applications the potential to use 64 exabytes of memory.

Apple has also written an FAQ about the update. Release notes are also available for Logic Pro 9.1 and MainStage 2.1.
