Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.5.5

Apple has today released the latest update to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The latest update includes many bug fixes, security enhancements and is available through software update.

Details of the Mac OS X 10.5.5 update are available on the Apple website and security changes here.

Some of the highlights in the update include:

  • Addresses stability issues with video playback, processor core idling, and remote disc sharing for MacBook Air.
  • Improves iPhone sync reliability with iCal and Address Book.
  • Includes extensive graphics enhancements.
  • Improves Mail robustness when sending messages.
  • Improves Back to My Mac reliability.
  • Improves Time Machine reliability with Time Capsule.
  • Time Machine can now back up iPhone backups that are on your Mac, as well as other items in (~/Library/Application Support).

Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.5.3

After months of testing Apple has released Mac OS X 10.5.3 to the public.

The update which weighs in at a mighty 420MB is described as follows by Apple:

The 10.5.3 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.

Apple also has a document listing the massive list of improvements that Mac OS X 10.5.3 brings, some highlights include:

  • RAW support for more cameras
  • Address Book can now sync with Google Contacts
  • Includes multiple fixes with Time Machine and Time Capsule
  • Improves 802.1X behavior and reliability

Mac OS X 10.5.2 Leopard Released

Following months of testing Apple has finally released the latest point update to Mac OS X Leopard.

The Mac OS X 10.5.2, is a 180MB update (340MB Combo) and is now available in the software update utility, a restart is required following installation:

The 10.5.2 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.

The update includes hundreds of bug fixes and enhancements but the following are of particular significance.

  • Back to My Mac: Adds support for more third-party routers, as detailed in this article.
  • Dock - Updates Stacks with a List view option, a Folder view option, and an updated background for Grid view.
  • Desktop - Addresses legibility issues with the menu bar with an option to turn off transparency in Desktop & Screen Saver preferences.
    Adjusts menus to be slightly-less translucent overall.

  • Time Machine - Adds a menu bar option for accessing Time Machine features (the menu extra can be enabled in Time Machine preferences).

Apple Release Mac OS X 10.4.11

After much rumour Apple has finally released an update for Mac OS X Tiger, the update labelled OS X 10.4.11 weighs in at around 67MB.

The 10.4.11 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Tiger and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac. This update also includes Safari 3, the latest version of Apple’s web browser.

Apple Delivers Another Mac OS X 10.4.11 Build

Think Secret reports that Apple released another build of Mac OS X 10.4.11 to delivers last week.

Builds 8S151 (PowerPC) and 8S2151 (Intel) are said to feature numerous bug fixes, including some more major bugs such as systems hanging on shutdown when unmounting an NFS volume.

Just a few known issues prevail, in particular issues with mounting Firewire drives on Intel machines.

Mac OS X 10.4.11 is expected to be released in just a few weeks time.

Apple Releases V1.1 of Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update

Following the release of Mac OS X 10.4.10 a couple of weeks ago, Apple has now followed up with an update to this.

V1.1 of 10.4.10 which weighs in at 72MB is described as:

The 10.4.10 Update is recommended for PowerPC and Intel-based Mac computers currently running Mac OS X Tiger. This update includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes or compatibility updates for the following applications and technologies:

  • RAW camera support
  • Mounting and unmounting external USB devices
  • Support for 3rd party software applications

Apple Unleashes Mac OS X 10.4.10 to Developers

As rumoured just a few days ago Apple has now released the first seed of Mac OS X 10.4.10 to members of ADC.

The builds are 8R205 (PPC) and 8R2205 (Intel), the update currently fixes issues with mds and network home directories, and an issue with the BSD Kernel. In addition, the PowerPC build corrects a problem with JavaScriptCore.

Developers are being asked to test in excess of 30 particular areas although no known issues are listed.
