Last week Apple announced to MobileMe members that it was to begin a beta of a new look webmail client. Over the last few days those invites have been rolling in and the beta is live.
Largely the MobileMe Mail beta is very similar to its predecessor, there is two new views available and the ability to setup rules is handy with lots of mobile devices around. Also MobileMe Mail beta runs very smoothly and feels very much like using a desktop based client.
The official list of new features is as follows:
- Widescreen and compact views
- Rules to keep your email organized everywhere
- Single-click archiving
- Message formatting toolbar
- Improved performance
- Increased security with SSL
Apple has posted an FAQ discussing the new features, some screenshots are below.

I’ve been using the beta version for a few days – its good but still very limited as to fonts / formatting etc.
Widescreen has minimal impact and can’t be modified – I’ve also noticed that the Mobileme Beta site has been unavailable on a regular basis – at the moment 5 out of 10
