Apple has today released a minor point update to iTunes which provides “a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices.”

The update which is 80MB in size brings no obvious features but is reported by numerous sources to break the syncing capabilities of the Palm Pre.
[Update] Apple has released a statement regarding the disabling of Palm Pre syncing:
“iTunes 8.2.1 is a free software update that provides a number of important bug fixes,” says Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris. “It also disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.”

It isn’t “said” to break the Palm-Pre, but it is rumored that it has. The update simply says that, “…addresses and issue with verification of Apple devices.”
Just for clarification.

Valid point Chris, the way I’ve written it implies Apple said that. At this point we know categorically that Pre syncing has been disabled though.
