Apple today released an SMC update for 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pros which addresses fan behaviour under high workload.
This SMC Firmware update adjusts the fan behavior in MacBook Pro systems (15-inch and 17-inch) when running under high workload conditions.
MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3 – 833KB
[Update] Due to Apple’s ambiguity it was initially unclear which models this update affected, an article on Apple’s support site has now been updated to verify that this update applies to MacBook Pro Early 2008 models, MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.4/2.2 GHz) and MacBook Pro (17-inch, 2.4 GHz).

Well I just tried to update this, because I have been on the phone with apple about it, and it doesn’t want to install.
I have 1.2 and it says it is up to date. What’s going on????

I’ve contacted apple about this but am still waiting for a reply. BTW my macbook pro is one of the late Oct08 models so it does apply.

World of Apple your article is incorrect!
You state its an update for 15 and 17 inch UNIBODY macbook pros, in fact this is not an update for the UNIBODY models, it is for the prior model.
Please adjust your article world of apple!

Installed the update and its caused my screen to stop working. Don’t install this until they sort out the bugs…

I have a late 2007 MacBook Pro, and I was prompted to install this update as well. Went smoothly for me, no problems.
@ Darrin – Presumably, later models of MacBook Pro did not need this fix, only earlier models like mine.

After all the calls I have made to apple, this is still a problem on our systems as well
