Does anyone know if there have been any subtle changes to USB or CUPS/PPDs between March and May ? I had a working arrangement for printing from USB port, MacBook, OS 10.5.5 - 10.5.6, USB to parallel converter, Canon BJC-1000. Suddenly stopped working even after complete restore from Time Machine.

Same setup works under Linux & CUPS (but only with Foomatic PPD).

SOMETHING changed.

Maybe the USB patch in 10.5.7 will restore ?

I live in Canada and most Blu Ray movies are 2-8 times the price of Apple TV HD movies. I used to collect, but found all I was collecting was dust on the 99% that you watch once.
I back up on multiple HDDs and when automated, is far too easy.
Blu Ray Burners are hundreds of dollars here and a "small" 25gig disc is $25 WHOLESALE.
In Canada it is not worth it in price or space on a shelf.
I don't want a new Mac Mini to cost me over $1000CDN, the new ones going up to $730 from $600 is hard enough to swallow.

Alright I don't know Elric where you live, but I buy my Blu-Ray movies from between £8 - £12... so I don't know about you or others but being a collector, I like to OWN my movies on a physical piece of material.

I have an AppleTV and it's not nearly as good as having a Blu-Ray player that does a thousand times better than the AppleTV which can loose ALL your films in a split second if the HDD fails. So where's the logic in that? Or are you just loaded with money?

You can get cheaper Blu-Ray players from Samsung than you can if you buy the AppleTV which is so limited unless hacked that it's virtually a shot in the foot for anyone who wished to live the HD dream.

To be honest, if you must bring applications into the picture then yes, there WILL be applications that will span over ONE dual layered DVD... we already have them. And if you work in HD on a daily basis you'd know what a blessing it is to have backups of your dailies.

The other thing is this, just because you don't have anything to use or don't know what to use the BD disc space for, doesn't mean others don't either. Others like those in the media business actually NEED BD on a back and VERY SOON!

We can save on the mac but cannot use commercial BDs... how sad.

Blu-Ray is very important for producing larger DVDs. It is needed if you want to include many large movies and slideshows which would be very convenient in some cases. It is the next logical step after dual-layer.

Blu Ray in a computer? Silly.
No program needs that kind of storage.
If you want HD get the other product, Apple TV, it's cheaper than a (decent) Blu Ray player and the HD movies/Tv shows are cheaper than buying Blu Ray discs.
Maybe when the drives and blank discs are WAY cheaper, then the average consumer might care, but if it's not cheap enough to be viable, physical storage is done.

[...] It seems that Apple’s Leopard team is working hard at the work. Last week they seeded OS X 10.5.7 build 9J22 and today WorldofApple reported that the latest build 9J27 is floating between developers. The Build tag 9J27 – could change at any time. Snow Leopard 10.6 is expected sometime around mid-year, it is quite possible that 10.5.7 will be the last update to Leopard before 10.6 arrives. But we not mean there won’t be a 10.5.8 :-) Those people familiar with the software also mentioned a significant focus on addressing syncing issues that have plagued many of Leopard’s standard, forward-facing apps, such as as Mail, AddressBook, and system preferences. According to World of Apple The latest build (9J27) asks for developers to focus on over 20 areas in the operating system including, AFP, AirPort, MobileMe Syncing, Printing, Screen Sharing, USB, X11 and more more. here we have the seed notes of build 9J27 as published by World Of Apple.
