If you notice, the Quicktime preference pane is no longer in System Preferences. And the bulb icon was changed from an incandescent to an CFL. Maybe Greenpeace will be a little happier.

How many languages were installed? On my Leopard install, almost all of the applications already have a smaller footprint than those depicted in the screen-shot, although I’ve removed all the language resources from the applications except English and Chinese via the Info window.
I suspect that a 64-bit binary might use a bit more disc space than the equivalent 32-bit binary, and that a 32/64 bit binary likewise would be larger than either (though obviously less than the sum of the two sizes).

PlunderBunny,
All languages were installed.

I did a comparison of apps in my 10.5.6 install and found that at least half were actually larger in Snow Leopard, and some by a large amount. What is that about?
John 24th February 2009, 03.25 am
Is iTunes now a 64-bit Cocoa app?
Ken 24th February 2009, 03.56 am
No, iTunes is not 64-bit and not Cocoa.
Scott 24th February 2009, 06.04 am
Non sign of a Finder replacement
Pierre 24th February 2009, 07.31 am
How could you expect a Finder replacement when we are talking about minor changes ?? Finder replacement (if it ever happens) would be a MAJOR move
darek 24th February 2009, 09.09 am
Ok, but i don’t see any differences.
Rob 24th February 2009, 10.28 am
I can’t see the significance of this release. I’ve used Xslimmer on 10.5.6 and the footprint for most of my apps is smaller than Snow Leopard. All my processes are Intel anyway.
George 24th February 2009, 10.32 am
Really? Look closer!
On a different note, if you can scroll in stacks does that mean that you can set them to a constant size? That would be useful and will keep the location of the back “button” at about the same place.

When ?
anonymous 24th February 2009, 11.19 am
in the mail.app get info window, it claims to be 36mb yet shows it’s using approx 76mb on disk.. what’s going on there?
Mark 24th February 2009, 12.35 pm
I can’t believe that yet now, after got the fastest processors, 32 bit, intel core 2 duo and so forth, any time I open the /Applications folder, I have ho wait from 2 to 6 seconds. It should be immediate! And not even Snow Leopard would fix that? Be ashamed Apple…

Anyone have noticed that the version of Safari is 4.0!?!?!??!?!?
Aaron Barnhart 24th February 2009, 15.33 pm
That new Calculator.app must kick ASS.
wiedo 24th February 2009, 15.55 pm
Have you noticed you can download 4.0 beta now?
Mutato 24th February 2009, 16.17 pm
Column View still useless? I really wish they tweaked all the Finder glitches like making the “column view” adjust to the longest file name in the particular folder (within reason!).
Joe 24th February 2009, 18.22 pm
Gotta say, it looks pretty good. I may hold off a little longer on buying my first Mac for this to be released.
Derek Currie 24th February 2009, 18.24 pm
The Finder was supposed to be entirely replaced in Leopard. That was quoted as a mandate by Steve Jobs himself.
Also, regarding QuickTime no longer needing to be upgraded to Pro: Are you sure?! What you’ve got there IS “Pro” as you can see in the QuickTime logo. I suspect QT Pro was distributed as part of the beta and is NOT activated in the public version.

Putback is back!
Terry McCall 24th February 2009, 22.20 pm
Finally, the return of Command Y!
Matt 24th February 2009, 22.40 pm
Some nice tidying up here, but nothing seemingly worth paying $99-149 for. I wonder how many people will complain about the Vista->7 upgrade price and then stand in lines/wait in droves to pay for the Leopard->Snow Leopard upgrade. Should be interesting. Love the double standards between the two OSes and their fanbases.

Seems like mostly under the hood stuff.
Ferd 25th February 2009, 13.55 pm
Does that also mean that I will be unhappy with the colder light provided by the new CFL control panel? Or if I accidentally drop it, I’ll create a toxic hazard? Guh.
SUMj 25th February 2009, 14.45 pm
Anyone know where to find the pics/video now?
wangmaster 27th February 2009, 14.37 pm
removed per apple MEHHHH!!!!
Boo Apple for that
soulplace 1st March 2009, 16.48 pm
Yes, but i’ve noticed that the version is 4.0 a day before the beta become public…
soulplace 1st March 2009, 16.49 pm
At least in Italy
Exciting 17th April 2009, 08.47 am
I wonder how much difference the changes to the core are going to make?!

This latest version finally takes part in the 64-bit architecture, allowing applications to have more than 4 GiB of RAM (if you possessed them of course), which was used for greedy software mostly. It appears that increased compatibility with social networking services have guided the development of this latest version. You can get the complete specifications on http://www.techarena.in/review/22152-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-review.htm. Its very useful.

I can’t wait to see the rumored tablet Apple is supposedly working on.
