According to MobileMe’s support site around 1% of users are unable to access MobileMe mail, according to some the outage has lasted for around 4 days.
CNN Money is also reporting the issues:
The Cupertino, Calif., company has been migrating its .Mac pay email service to an upgraded version, called MobileMe. But in doing so, it has run into problems including service outages and customers losing access to their accounts. It’s the latest in a string of issues that have cropped up since the launch of the latest iPhone, an unusual turn for a company known for its attention to detail in its products and services.
The launch of MobileMe has been tarnished by a poor initial rollout and slow response in the past couple of weeks.

Mobile Me now has an error message on the email page, and directs you to a support page which has the following message:
On Friday, July 18, 2008 (2008-07-18) we experienced a serious issue with one of our MobileMe mail servers. This issue is currently affecting approximately 1% of MobileMe members. Affected members are unable to send or receive email at http://www.me.com or access email using any email client software such as Mail on a Mac or Microsoft Outlook on a PC.
We understand this is a serious issue and apologize for this service interruption. We are working hard to restore your service.

I think ME service being down for 6 days so far is unfortunate timing for Apple to it’s new ME generation products to market. The ME generation has such a poor social image and then this.
