As well as having the ability to save images from Safari the upcoming firmware for the iPhone appears to also have the ability to save images from email message attachments.
The feature works in a similar way to how it works in Safari where by the user simply holds their finger on the image causing a menu to pop-up offering several options including saving to the camera roll.
