Reputable Italian publication Repubblica is reporting that Telecom Italia will launch the iPhone in Italy within the next few weeks and begin selling units in the Summer.
Although the iPhone will be sold through TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) it will not be locked to any carrier.
The report also mentions that the iPhone will be 3G (UMTS-capable) and is expected to retail for a higher selling price due to no revenue sharing taking place with carriers.

China, Australia, and now Italy are the countries I know of that sell officially unlocked iPhones. Too bad they don’t do this in the U.S.
