Trademork notes that Apple has filed to extend the current Apple trademark to include the following new areas:
Toys, games and playthings, namely, hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games
The filing which was made on February 5th, 2008 raises questions about whether Apple wishes to enter the games console market.
The change on the other hand may simply be to include the ongoing development of iPod games and possibly new games for the iPod touch and iPhone platform.
On another note 9toMac points out that Apple is currently hiring for a Game Developer:
Video Game Design and Production. Successful candidate possesses a proven track-record of producing and designing great video games.
