Citing industry sources Taiwan based DigiTimes is reporting that Kenmos Technology and Taiwan Nano Electro-Optical Technology have both become suppliers of notebook LED backlit units for both Dell and Apple.
Taiwan Nano Electro-Optical Technology is currently supplying 12.1-inch units to Dell via AU Optronics and is said to have had its 1.3-inch backlit unit “validated” by Apple.
“The sources disclosed that Nano-Op’s LED notebook BLU shipments in November were only about 10,000 units, but Apple orders are expected drive up shipments to over 90,000 units in December,” the report claims.
The rumour fits with chatter over the recent weeks and months about an ultra-portable notebook from Apple that will be launched at Macworld 2008.

The story specifically mentions that Apple has ordered 13.3″ screens. That doesn’t sound like a UMPC. Personally, I’m still hoping for an iTablet before a “Macbook Mini”. But it could just be Apple trying to increase margins on the Macbook. The article also mentions that BLUs are cheaper.
