November 29th 2007 marked the release of iPhone in France, of particular interest to the media was the French legislation forcing carriers to sell unlocked handsets in the country.
Didier Lombard, Chairman and CEO of France Telecom the parent company of Orange, told the press at a meeting that he expects between 400,000 and 500,000 iPhones to be sold in France during its first year on sale.
Orange is selling the phone in France for €399 with one of four plans ranging from €49 to €119 per month. All the plans include unlimited access to the EDGE network and visual voicemail.
Customers not wanting to subscribe to one of the set iPhone contracts can instead pay €549 and use any other Orange tariff.
And for those wishing to use another carrier completely can pay €649 plus €100 to unlock it but after six months it’ll be eligible for a free unlock in accordance to French law.
