Let’s get going with the rumour roundup…

iPod nano - WoA Rumour Rating - 9/10

In July videos purporting to be of the new iPods UI circulated the internet, they were quick pulled by Apple legal from many sites, including YouTube. This in a way confirms at least this part of the rumour.

The videos showed off a much more animated interface than features in the current iPod versions, with the addition of new features such as Cover Flow.

Then later on July 9to5Mac.com kicked off the rumours well and truly, although they initially got the date wrong they did post a mockup of what they believed the new shorter but fatter iPod would look like.

Think Secret was keen to corroborate 9to5Mac.com by confirming the existence of said iPods.

Later 9to5Mac.com pushed the boat out and posted the colours that they expected the new iPods to arrive in as well as a spy shot, which was later pulled by Apple legal.

The other day saw the revealing of some new cases, which fit the descriptions, and mockups we’ve seen of the new nano.

3.5-inch touch-screen iPod (iPod Touch?) - WoA Rumour Rating - 6/10

Going by 9to5Mac.com’s apparent accuracy in pinpointing Apple rumours, the site also mentions that Apple will introduce a full size iPod which they have dubbed iPod Touch.

The 3.5-inch touch-screen iPod has been rumoured for a long time, with Think Secret originally mentioning the existence of such an iPod around 20 months ago.

The new iPod is said to be similar in style to the iPhone and use the same touch-screen with a resolution of 480 x 320 and run OS X.

Mockup of rumoured iPod Touch

Think Secret has noted in the last 24 hours that the iPod will take centre stage at tomorrow’s Special Event.

Although the rumour is long standing and multiple sites and sources point towards the existence of the iPod, you have to wonder how much it will cut into Apple iPhone.

Flash based or Hard Drive?

Multiple sources are clashing when it comes to confirming whether the iPod Touch will have purely NAND flash storage, hard drive storage or a hybrid of the two.

Think Secret today said that their sources had confirmed that iPod Touch features an hard drive only line-up, pointing towards price per gigabyte as a deciding factor.

Both 9to5Mac.com and DigiTimes appear to disagree as they both mention this iPod going towards an all flash based lineup.

The rumour began earlier this year.

World of Apple personally believes that the iPod Touch will feature hard drives and will top out at 120GB.

Wireless Connectivity - WoA Rumour Rating - 6/10

In the past week the rumour of wireless connectivity in the iPod Touch have grown in strength, suggesting that it could be used for browsing and purchasing from the iTunes Store and/or connectivity to a remote iTunes library.
