MacScoop claims that “trusted sources” have passed on information that Apple is planning to release “a notebook that is so small and light that it could redefine the standards of ultra-portable computing.”
The site claims that the new notebook will most likely complete the MacBook Pro line-up, featuring a 12-inch display and be “half as thick” as the original 12-inch PowerBook (somewhere between 15-18 mm or 0.6-0.7 inches).
The new notebook will reportedly be Apple’s lightest ever, weighing in at less than 1.3KG (3 pounds), compare that to the 2.44KG (5.4 pounds) of the current 15-inch MacBook Pro.
MacScoop notes that their source neglected to include any information about an optical drive, which leads the site to speculate that there simply is no drive thin enough. But does report that a new drive unleashed earlier in the year by Panasonic is just 6.8mm (0.27 inches) thick.
Release timeframes are said to be “vague” but tracking before the end of 2007.

According to Digitimes, Apple has placed orders for both 15″ and 13″ LED displays. The 15″ have already gone into the MacBook Pro, and the 13″ are scheduled to arrive a few months after ..
The MacBook has only just recently undergone a revision, and it is unusual for a second (ie. addition of LED screens) to come so soon after. This gives the real possibility that the 13″ screens are on order for another product … could this be the MacBook ‘Thin’??
In any case, economies of scale will be quite important with the new, more costly LED screens, and what better way to increase your order and drive down costs but to build them into BOTH the MacBook and the MacBook Thin? ………..
In conclusion, MacBook Thin is very likely to be 13″.
