Apple stated on Wednesday that it will use its skills in software development to gradually add new software features and applications to both the iPhone and Apple TV.

“We are taking this bold step to leverage what we do best,” chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer said during a conference call with analysts and members of the media.

It was also noted that retail staff are “putting a lot of energy into preparing for the launch” of the iPhone.

Apple confirmed that the iPhone will be sold via Apple.com, Cingular.com, Apple retail stores, and Cingular/AT&T retail stores.

The iPhone remains on track to be introduced in the fourth calendar quarter in Europe, followed by Asia in 2008.

Apple COO, Tim Cook did not comment on questions related to iPhone supply, explaining that Apple had yet to begin ramping up production of the device. “It’s very difficult to tell what demand is until you’re shipping the product,” he said.
