DigiTimes is once again reiterating that Apple is planning to introduce a 15.4-inch MacBook in the second quarter of 2007.
Back in October the publication stated that a 15.4-inch MacBook was en-route for a May 2007 release, at the time it seemed most likely that this was simply confusion between the MacBook and MacBook Pro.
The publication now claims that the 15.4-inch MacBook will fill the gap between the 13.3-inch MacBook and the 15.4- and 17-inch MacBook Pros.
The publication cites the following from unnamed sources:
MacBook shipments are expected to reach 700,000 units in the first quarter of 2007, after enjoying substantial gains in the second half of 2006, say the PC makers. However, shipment growth for the whole of 2007 is likely to be even greater than that of the first-quarter following the introduction of the 15.4-inch model in the second quarter, the sources noted.
The current crop of MacBooks are manufactured by Asustek Computers but the publication believes that Quanta Computer will produce the 15.4-inch variant, Quanta makes both the MacBook Pro models. Foxconn was apparently running for the “lucrative” contract but was unsuccessful.
