Apple Computer has turned down an offer to incorporate hybrid flash-enhanced drives from Samsung into its notebook computers.
Apple has reportedly been working on a next-generation laptop that will feature flash memory to increase the speed of certain functions, instead of accepting Samsung as the provider of hybrid flash drives, Apple appears to have chosen Intel to supply the technology.
“We did propose the HDD (hybrid disk drive) concept to Apple” said Chuck Kang, an engineer from Samsung’s the Flash Memory Planning Group, “but Apple’s opinion is that they’re not going to use HDD for their systems… they won’t support it”.
It looks likely that the hybrid flash drives will make an appearance in 2007 from Intel.
