Apple has created a number of featured ‘iPod’ pages on the popular social networking site, MySpace.
The company has created 3 separate pages for the green, blue and pink models of the iPod nano range. The pages (which are designed incredibly well, as expected) make heavy use of flash and offer some of the following features:
- Downloadable screensavers for Mac & Windows
- Downloadable Wallpapers
- The ability to watch Apple’s new iPod nano commercial
- Custom Code to allow users to ‘iPod-ify’ their MySpace Profile
- Custom Playlists (each of which links heavily into the iTunes Store)
It is not known whether Apple will expand the program to include other models in the iPod range – including Apple’s recently released PRODUCT (RED) iPod nano.
Details of the tie-in are currently unavailable, however this is likely to be a collaboration between Apple Marketing & MySpace directly. All clicks made from the page are routed through an external ad agency, so it is likely that MySpace is set to make a tidy commission from every iTunes song or iPod nano purchased from any of the pages.
This is not the first time Apple has mixed with social networking. In July this year, Apple joined forces with Facebook.com to offer 10 million free iTunes samplers (each comprising of 25 songs). Apple also has a very popular official students group within the Facebook community with over 500,00 members (screenshot below).
