A company by the name of Navio which specialises in digital-rights management have taken it upon themselves to reverse engineer Apple Fairplay DRM format. The format is used to protect songs bought from the iTunes Music Store.

The company plans to allow other online music stores to sell the songs and to allow playback on iPods.
“Schaaf described Navio as “DRM-agnostic,” adding that the company was only providing the technology that its customers are asking for. “Whether it’s Helix, WMA or FairPlay, our customers indicate what kind of DRM encoding they want and then we provide them with a solution,” he said.
