A startup company known as P.A. Semi is reported to be working on a new family of low power, multicore, PowerPC processors.
The company plans to introduce a dual core 2GHz processor with typical power consumption of around 13 watts. A spokesman for the company had this to say;
“There isn’t a silver bullet to solve the power problem. You just have to have it as a priority all through the design process,” Hayter said. “We’ve applied the methodology whereby if a part of the chip isn’t being used, we won’t clock it.”
The chips are expected to be introduced towards the end of 2006.
