Steve Jobs paid Stanford University a visit on Sunday he told students that the best decision he ever made was too drop out of college because it forced him to innovate if even to find money for food.
During this unusual speech Jobs told nearly 5000 graduates that his bout with a rare form of pancreatic cancer helped to emphasise the need to live each day to the fullest. “Your time is limited so don’t let it be wasted by living someone else’s life”
Jobs wearing sandals and jeans under his robe stated that he attended Reed College but dropped out due to it being too costly, he says his real education started when he ‘dropped in’ on calligraphy. He told that graduates that the painstaking attention to detail required in calligraphy was what set the Macintosh apart from its competitors.
“I was a very public failure and I even thought about running away from the valley” Jobs said.
When diagnosed with cancer, Jobs said his doctor told him he only had three to six months to live. He later found out he had a rare, but treatable form of the disease but it had all taught him a valuable lesson.
